My Last 1st Year Project

So this was my last project for 1st year of grad school....which was kinda nice, considering this one took forever. I enjoyed it thoroughly, but the scale of the project was huge. For those of you who are interested it was 1/4 inch=1 foot. Which means the project was big! We had to design a building with residential units, some commercial space and fit them together on a parcel of land with a limited amount of square footage. The actual site was in the South Bay area, which for those of you who don't know is considered rougher area of town. My concept was community gathering since the area is made up of primarily Hispanic people, who are in general very community oriented. Without really getting into it, some how my project reflects that. anyways had a lot fun with it and here are some pics to look at.

Beach!

This is Andrew and I on the beach today. . . it was actually warm enough to swim! Well warm enough for me anyway which means water being above 70 degrees! You think living in San Diego I would go to the beach all the time but this is probably only my third time to the beach this summer! I know what is my problem? Now that it is HOT in San Diego i will have to head back soon. I need to break in my body board fins! Also Andrew's favorite days are days on the beach so all the more reason to make it a summer time priority!

I wanna go back to my little grass shack . . .

The Happy Couple

A couple of weeks ago I went to my cousin Rebekah's wedding in Hawaii. She is now Mrs. Rebekah Botello! It was doubly exciting because I hadn't expected it to work out for me to go. Ahh I love weddings! It was so sweet to witness their love for each other and to get to share in the celebration. At the beginning of the ceremony my uncle and auntie surprised Rebekah and sang the song watercolor ponies her and we were all tearing up. I'm such a sucker for the sentimental!

In addition to all of the wedding celebrations I was able to spend some quality/quantity time holding my cousins five week old baby. So precious! It was so fun to catch up with cousins and aunties and uncles and to see my parents and sister. Being that I don't live by them anymore my time with them is quite precious as well!

This was taken at the Turtle Bay Resort reception the day following the ceremony. Rebekah asked Michael if he would mind if she ran for Mrs. Hawaii after they got married and he said who wouldn't want Mrs. Hawaii on their arm? I think she should do it!

This is Miss Hunter Stewart and if you ask her what her hands are for she will say "blessing" and if you ask her what her mouth is for she will say "edification"!! You can see part of her heffalump name Lumpy from whom she was inseparable.

Kelly and I are at a park a few blocks from our last house in Hawaii off of Kuliouou. We actually have on video my parents telling us at this park that we were moving to Oregon. They told us "Now you know you guys will have to play inside more will you mind?" and we said " We won't mind! We will just play Barbies or ironing!" Haha!!! Don't ask us why playing ironing seemed like a comparable alternative to running around barefoot all year! I guess things don't always have to make sense when you are three and six!

This is Kailua Beach just a few houses down from our friends the Meinken's house where we stayed this trip. Oh how I would love to walk on this beach everyday!

Haircut!

Lucy finally got a hair cut! Well at least a face cut:) When I picked her up from the groomers they had combed her bangs straight down after they had cut them straight across! Poor puppy looked like one of the three stooges! Yikes! So I took one of the bows they had put in her hair and tied her hair up out of her eyes. And after all of that we can see her eyes now! I have included a before pic just so you can see! I think she was a little embarrased because when we got in the car she hid her face in my arm!

Our Family

We have been married now for two and a half years and up until recently it has been just the two of us. In July of 2007 two became three when we adopted little Lucy into our hearts and our family. She has been a source of joy and entertainment and Andrew especially loves that Lucy keeps me company while he is busy at school!

We have been living in San Diego for a little more than a year now as Andrew is working on his Masters in Architecture. He will be starting his second year of a three year program this fall and will only be getting busier as he takes on more classes. We are starting to feel more at home as we take advantage of the sun and surf and all San Diego has to offer. Andrew especially loves taking advantage of the surf and wishes he could do more of it! We have been completely spoiled by the weather and I'm sure by now completely take it for granted that it is nice enough to walk to Starbucks every Saturday. I have been working at a small CPA office and am learning more and more everyday! We have made some great new friends and one of our favorite things to do is host game night at our apartment!

Game Night

Hawaii 2006

Last summer my Grandpa Bachran turned 80 and we had a family reunion in Hawaii! Almost everyone was there including nine of the grand kids and their spouses and one great grandchild! It was so fun getting together with family and seeing how our family and we had changed over the years! We had a Cousins Amazing Race challenge, lots of family meals, lots of pictures (a.k.a. paparazzi aunties and uncles) and of course lots of singing! My dad and his siblings grew up singing together and so of course that has been an integral part of all the cousins lives in some shape or form. We also enjoyed a hula from my Grandma Bachran and a tap dance from Grandpa! Throughout the evening of the family reunion dinner each of the siblings and their spouse gave Grandma and Grandpa a rose and shared with them what their lives have meant over the years.

Outside of enjoying all the family time we were taking in Hawaii which meant lots of swimming, para sailing, eating and golfing!
